Summary

Summary
Last update: 23 Nov 2016

Fiji Airways is Fiji’s outstanding career and has structured its baggage policy to fit the needs of the passengers it serves in all its primary international routes. Specifically, their baggage policy categorizes baggage allowance based on the Class the passenger is traveling on and whether their flight is domestic or international with a further focus on specific routes.

Checked baggage for international flights

Flights To/From USA or CANADA

Passengers on this flight are allowed checked baggage as follows; Business Class passengers can carry up to 40kg or 88lbs of checked baggage while the Economy Class passengers can carry up to 23kg or 50lbs of checked baggage. Infants who are less than two years will be allowed checked baggage of 10kg or 22 lbs plus a single collapsible stroller.

Flights To/From Honolulu

In this case, passengers are allowed to bring along checked baggage of up to 23 kg or 50lbs in the Economy class, and 30kg or 66 lbs in the Business Class and the infants are allowed only 10kg plus a single collapsible stroller. Each passenger in every case is allowed to carry only one piece of checked baggage

Flight From Los Angeles or San Fransico or Canada

Adult and Children passengers are authorized to bring along checked baggage of up to 23 kg or 50lbs in the Economy class, and 30kg or 66 lbs in the Business Class, and infants are allowed only 10kg plus a single collapsible stroller. Each and every passenger in this category is authorized to carry only one piece of checked baggage except the Business Class passenger who can carry up to 3 pieces of checked baggage.

Checked baggage for Domestic flights

Domestic flights do not have a business class category. Therefore, passengers on the Economy class are allowed to carry up to 15kg or 33 lbs of checked baggage while infants who are under the age of 2 yrs are authorized to bring along one collapsible stroller with no allowance for checked baggage.

Baggage that is more than 30 kg will need to be repackaged or sent as freight while that that exceed 23kg but is below 30kg will be listed as excess baggage and charged excess baggage fees if there is no more space left for it to fit in. The excess baggage fees depend on the routes the passenger is traveling on.

Even though the passengers have the option of paying excess baggage in advance, this is not guaranteed. In case a passenger cannot pay for excess baggage they can consider to repackage clothes and other personal items in the baggage and send them as unaccompanied baggage. A maximum dimension of 158cm or 62 inches is applied for every piece of baggage over which baggage classifies as bulky.

Carry-On Baggage

For all destinations on international flights, cabin baggage allowance is applied as follows; Adult and children passengers in the Economy Class are allowed a single piece of carry-on luggage with dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23cm and weighing 7kg or 15 lbs. On the other hand passengers on the Business Class are allowed two pieces of carry-on baggage with measurements of 56 x 45 x 25cm.

Adults accompanying Infants who are below the age of 2 years are allowed a single piece of carry-on baggage weighing 3kg in addition to the baggage weight allowance applied on their tickets. The airline observes that sometimes it will not be able to fit all the carry-on baggage into the cabins and so the passengers are required to check it in at the counters .

Since there is only Economy class for the domestic flights, adult and children passengers are needed to carry only 7kg or 15lbs of carry on baggage, while for infants no carry-on baggage is allowed.

In addition to the carry-on luggage passengers will be allowed to bring along the following items; a handbag, a pocket book or purse, an overcoat or blanket, small camera, umbrella or walking stick, wedding gown, a duty-free bag purchased at the airport or a collapsible baby stroller.

Baggage Claims

In the case of lost or damaged or delayed baggage, a passenger will be required to immediately visit the Lost and Found counter and leave a report. This reporting is preferably done when the concern arises followed by filling in of a Fiji Airlines Baggage Claim Form. Attached to the baggage claim form should be the ticket booking the flight, File Reference Slip, Photo ID or copy of the passenger's passport and a copy of the Bag tag number.

Restricted Items

Sharp objects that have the potential to be used as weapons are prohibited for carriage in carry on luggage. In addition to that only personal items will be allowed in the checked or hand luggage and boxes made of cardboard and polystyrene must be entirely plastic wrapped for them to be accepted by Fiji Airways for carriage.

Any liquid, Aerosol or gel in 100ml containers can be carried as hand luggage and stored in resealable plastic bags that can hold a maximum of 1 litre of content. Any such substance that is more than the specified amounts should be carried as cabin baggage.

Lithium batteries that are in personal electronic devices or brought along as spare batteries are allowed as checked baggage while there is a prohibition on carriage of lithium-powered vehicles like hoverboards and air boards. Cremated remains of a human being can be carried as cabin luggage as long as they are contained in an urn, and provision of the following evidence; Funeral home documentation, death certificate, health and quarantine certification as per the departing and arriving country's requirements.

In conclusion, Fiji Airways Prohibits items that fall under the dangerous goods categorization from carriage as any luggage. These prohibited substances are explosives, radioactive materials, flammable materials, and poisonous substances.
