Air Austral is one of France’s leading airlines with a focus on getting passengers to most of the popular tourist destination across the world. For this reason, it has a comprehensive coverage of routes covering most of Europe, America, and Africa. Therefore, its baggage policy is structured to cater to the needs of its diverse clientele spread across the world.

 Checked Baggage Allowance

The airline's checked baggage allowance is segmented to reflect the requirements for the long haul flights and the regional flights with consideration for the class a passenger is traveling on. In the long haul flights, passengers traveling on the Loisir Class are allowed checked baggage of 25 kg, those on the Confort Class are allowed checked baggage of 30 kg while those on the Club Austral Class are allowed checked baggage of 40 kg.

Air Austral's passengers on the regional flights enjoy the same checked baggage weight allowance save for those on the Confort class who are only allowed 30 kg of checked baggage. For this airline, the number of pieces of baggage a passenger can carry is limited by whether the maximum weight of the baggage is within the limits outlined. However, it is also vital for travelers to heed that the maximum weight they are allowed for every piece of checked baggage is 32kg for all other routes and 30kg for routes to and from Thailand while the dimesnsions of the baggage must not exceed 300cm. Passengers traveling with infants will be able to pack an extra 10kg of checked baggage free of charge in addition to a single push chair for the baby. This applies only if the passenger is booked on a special infant discount.

Carry-On baggage

When it comes to carry on baggage the passenegrs are limited to weight allowance of 10kg which is inclusive of other personal items brought along. The luggage should not exceed dimensions of 55cm x 45cm x 20 cm. Perosnal items may include a laptop, briefcase, reading material or an overcoat and it highly advised that the passenger pack in the hand luggage items like important business documents, jewels, money, keys , cameras and other valuables. Excess baggage will attract extra fees, as determined by the airline for both the hand luggage and the checked baggage.

Baggage Claim

Any claims for baggage whether it is for lost baggage, delayed baggage or damaged baggage should be filed with the airline immediately for follow up and timely assistance.

Restricted Items

Liquids carried on board should be limited to containers of 100ml and should be carried separately in clear plastic bags that can be resealed with dimesnions not exceeding 20cm x 20cm. It is required that such bags be presented to security for checking at the security checkpoints. These restrictions do not apply to medication in liquid form as long as they are accompanied by a doctor’s prescription, any baby food that is in liquid form and duty free purchases made at airports as long as a proof of purchase is presented.

Finally, in the hand luggage passengers will not be allowed to carry any form of firearms, sharp objects with the potential to be used as weapons, explosives, radioactive substances and any form of flammable material. While on board, there is a category of items that are prohibited both on the passenger and in baggage.
