Summary

Summary
Last update: 28 Nov 2016

The Azul Airline has a baggage policy that is influenced mainly by the ticket class that the passenger has booked. It has two major classes on its international flights; The Azul Xtra Business Class and the Economy class. This segmentation has enabled it to have a generous provision for its passengers when it comes to baggage weight.

Checked Baggage Allowance

In the Azul Business Class, adults, children, and infant passengers will be allowed to carry three pieces of baggage weighing a maximum of 23 kg each while the infants under two years who are traveling on the parent's lap will be authorized only a single piece weighing 23kg. This provision slightly differs from the passengers on the Economy class who will be allowed to carry two pieces weighing 23 kg for the adult, children and infant passengers while infants under the age of two years who are traveling on their parents lap will be allowed a single piece weighing only 23kg. The maximum dimension of the baggage should be 158cm when the length, width, and height are factored in with the maximum weight being restricted at 23kgs. It is important for passengers traveling with infants to note that carry baskets and collapsible baby strollers are not allowed as part of checked baggage.

In addition to that, a passenger who feels like they need to carry extra baggage on top of the allowed baggage can bring along additional checked baggage pieces which they are required to book via the website or call three hours prior to their flight for allocation of space. For one additional piece of baggage, the passenger will be expected to pay USD 95, for two extra pieces they will be required to pay USD 190 and for three additional pieces they will be needed to pay USD 285.

Carry-on luggage

All passengers will be needed to carry hand luggage that does not surpass 5 kgs and dimensions of 115 cm.

In addition to that, passengers who wish to travel with their sports equipment will be guided by the following outlined rules. Sporting equipment that is either; Archery or Knapsack or Boogie or Skim or Speed boards or Bowling balls or Camping equipment or Fishing equipment or Gold boards will be allowed as part of checked baggage if they do not exceed 23kg. Otherwise, they will charged extra baggage fees.

In contrast, sporting equipment that falls under any of the following categories; Bicycles or Surfboards or Kite boards or Wakeboards or Wave ski or Antlers or Javelin or Scuba gear will be charged USD 150. In addition to that, the following category of sports equipment will not be allowed as checked baggage; Kayaks or Boats or Scull or Canoes or Pole vaults.

Excess Baggage Fees

In case a passenger surpasses the limits allocated for the baggage pieces, they will be required to pay extra fees on their baggage. That means if the baggage is over the weight allowed and the dimensions outlined they will be charged an extra fee of USD 150. This also applies for any additional bags. However, the maximum weight the baggage can be is 45 kilograms, over which, it should be repackaged or sent as cargo.

Baggage Claims

Passengers are highly advised to pick their luggage immediately on arrival at the airport. Should there be an incident of damage to baggage or a loss occurring, the passenger should file a Complainant Report with the airline. This should happen within 7 days and the passenger should allow the airline a period of 30 days for a response. The traveler will then be compensated according to the applicable laws.

Restricted and Prohibited Substances

Passengers carrying any form of liquids should ensure that they are limited to 100ml containers which should be contained in a 1 litre resealable plastic paper bag. Medication and baby food will only be allowed on board after inspection by the customs officials.

In addition to that, A certain category of items is not allowed on board either as checked baggage or hand luggage and these are alarm devices, explosives, flammable gasses or solids, toxic liquids, substances with oxidizing capabilities, radioactive material, corrosive substances, any biological agents and lithium battery powered vehicles like hoverboards.
