The carry-on baggage allowance for Hainan Airlines is dependent on the type of flight. The carry-on allowance for Hainan Airlines is set differently for the domestic flights and international flights. However, the baggage carry-on allowance is restricted to one piece of luggage of no more than 10 kilograms or 22 pounds for each passenger measuring 20 by 40 by 55 centimeters or 8by 16 by 22 inches.

However, Hainan Airlines allows certain exceptions for passengers to put luggage in the passenger cabin in addition to the usual baggage allowance. This exception covers special items such as crutches and wheelchairs for travellers with special needs. The carry-on baggage limit for each passenger is set to a sum of 5 kilograms or 11.02 pounds. The first class and Business class passengers are allowed to bring on board the 5 kilograms or 11 pounds of luggage in two separate pieces of baggage, whereas the economy class passengers are limited to merely a single piece of carry-on baggage. This luggage allowance is restricted to a minimum weight of 5 kilograms or 11pounds for every individual piece of carry-on baggage for all Chinese domestic flight routes. Additionally, the carry-on baggage must adhere to the following measurement limitations: 5 centimetres (21.65 inches) in height, 40centimetres (15.75 inches) in width and 20centimetres (7.87 inches) in depth.

Carry-on Baggage (China-USA Routes) 1

Every ticketed traveller is limited to a single carry-on of luggage which must not be more than 10 kilograms in weight. In addition, the single piece of carry-on must not exceed 115cm in measurement of its linear size that is, the sum of its height, width and depth. The carry-on luggage must be put either on the overhead compartment or beneath the seat in front of the passenger.

Carry-on Baggage (Other International Routes) 1

The first and business class passengers are restricted a single piece of carry-on baggage per person. However, the total weight must not be more than 10 kilograms. The same limits apply to economy class passengers. Overall, the linear dimension restrictions are the same (55cm/21.65 inches in height, 40 cm/15.75 inches in width and 20cm/7.87inches in depth).

Mainland China Routes 2 (limitation on Free Checked Baggage)

The total free checked baggage for this route is 40kgs for first class travellers per head and 30kilograms for the business class whereas the limit for the economy class is set at 20kilograms. However, infant travellers are offered an additional 10 kilograms allowance on top of the aforementioned limitation.

Regional Routes/ Taiwan & Hong Kong2 (limitation on Free Checked Baggage)

The sum weight of free checked luggage for this route is 30 kilograms per head for both first and business classes and, 20 kilograms for the economy class. However, infant travellers are offered an additional 10 kilograms allowance on top of the aforementioned limitation.

International Routes2 (limitation on Free Checked Baggage)

Prohibited Baggage

Hainan Airline may refuse carriage of items such as loaded guns, explosives, compressed gases or any other baggage that is not properly labeled and package, which might endanger the safety of transport.
