American Airlines Baggage Information
Baggage Limit
You can carry one carry-on baggage and one personal item. Also you can carry up-to 10 checked bags if your flight is domestic, transatlantic or transpacific. If you are travelling through/to/from Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America or Brazil, you are allowed 5 bags.
Weight and Size
American Airlines calculates the size limits of each bag by adding up its external dimension, that is length + width + height. Checked baggage allowance for all regions is 62 inches/158 cm in size and 50 lbs or 23 kg in weight. First class, Business, A Advantage, Executive Platinum and One-world travellers can check up to 70 lbs and 32 cm at no extra cost.
Costs
Usually, you will not have to pay for the first 3 checked bags, but in most cases it will depend on your flight plan and what class you are in. Domestic travellers will pay $25 for first bag, $35 for second bag, $150 for third bag and d $200 for bag 4 or more. For international flights the first three bags are complimentary and $100-200 for any extra bag.
Allowances
Mobility and medical devices such as electronic gadgets, wheelchairs and oxygen are allowed but must meet all airline requirements as per their policy. You are required to carry your own fully charged batteries so as not to depend on the on-board power sources. All electronic devices must be battery powered.
Pets are allowed for flights lasting not more than 12 hours but must meet all airline policy requirements. You can travel with your pet to all 48 contiguous American states, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and St Thomas. There are special restrictions when travelling with pets to/from Hawaii or the Caribbean. You must pay the pet charge and your pet must be at least 8 weeks old. You will require a health certificate for your pet.
Exceptions, packing instructions and special rules apply to speciality items such as musical instruments, audio and visual instruments, infant seats, military baggage and human remains must all meet airline policies.
Restrictions
Restricted items include Alcoholic beverages more than 70% in volume, animal products, batteries, defense sprays, Marijuana, cutting objects, electronic cigarettes, explosives, firearms or ammunition, gasoline powered tools, dry ice, flammable liquids or solid, , hover boards, personal care items, household items , self-heating meals, scissors and tools are all classifies under restricted
