Air Mauritius has structured its baggage policy to cover all the routes it flies to so that its passengers make an informed decision concerning their baggage when seeking to travel through the airline.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers on flights originating from Mauritius or Rodrigues

Passengers flying within Mauritius and Rodrigues can carry up to 15 kg of checked baggage in the Economy class. Those flying to Madagascar or reunion will be allowed up to two checked baggage weighing 32kg for the Business class and one piece of up to 30kg in the economy class. For passengers in flights heading to Europe through Paris, the Economy class clients can carry checked baggage weighing 32 kg each for the two pieces permitted while in the Economy class one piece of checked baggage of 32kg is permitted. If as a passenger on the Business Class your destination is Europe through London, Asia, Oceania or Africa you are allowed two checked baggage of 32 kg per bag, while in the Economy class the allowance is two checked baggage of 23 kg each.

Passengers on flights originating from Reunion

To begin with, if your destination is Mauritius or Rodrigues you are allowed only one checked baggage of 30kg for the economy class. If the destination is either Madagascar or Europe through London, Asia, Oceania or Africa then the checked baggage allowance in the Business Class is two pieces weighing 32kg each and only one piece weighing 30 kg in the Economy class. When your destination is Europe through Paris the checked baggage allowance is two pieces of 32 kg each in the Business class and one piece of 23 kg in the Economy Class.

Passengers On Flights Originating From Madagascar

On this flight, business class passengers will be allowed two checked baggage items of 32kg each and a single piece of checked baggage weighing 30kg. This is if their destination is Mauritius, Rodrigues or Reunion. If your destination is either Europe, Asia, Oceania or Africa then the checked baggage allowance on the Business class is two pieces of 32kg and 2 pieces of 23kg on the Economy Class.

Passengers on flights originating From Africa

In this case, if the destination is either Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa or Indian Ocean Islands, the checked baggage allowance is up to 32kg for two items in the Business Class and baggage of 23kg in the Economy class.

Passengers On Flights Originating From Europe Through Paris.

In this classification, the Business class passenger can carry up to 32kg of baggage and one piece weighing up to 23kg in the Economy class if their destination is the Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, Asia or Oceania.

Passengers on flights originating From Europe through London.

For destinations that are either the Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, Asia or Oceania then the Business Class travelers can carry up to two 32kg each baggage and one piece of 30kg.

Passengers On Flights Originating From Asia

In the Business class, an allowance of 2 pieces of baggage is granted with each weighing 32kg while their counterparts in the Economy Class are allowed only one piece of 30kg for destinations such as Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, Oceania, and Europe through London. Similarly, those flying to Europe through Paris are allowed the same baggage allowances except in the Economy class where the maximum weight accepted for the single piece of checked baggage is 23kg.

Passengers On Flights Originating From Oceania

If the destination is the Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, Asia, or Europe through Asia; For the Business Class, up to two items of 32kg are permitted as checked baggage whereas in the Economy Class a single piece of checked baggage of 30kg is permitted. Compared to those flying to Europe through Paris, the only difference is in the Economy class checked baggage limits where only a single piece weighing 23 kg is allowed.

Premium Economy clients can carry two items of checked baggage of 23 kg each. Any excess baggage will be levied at a cost of EUR 200 for every added piece. Each baggage in the specified classes above should have a dimension of 158 cm when the length, width, and height are summed up.

Infants on the plane are allowed additional checked baggage of up to 23kg except for the flights plying the Mauritius and Rodrigues route where infants are allowed 5kgs. Students are also given preferential treatment in that they are allowed to carry an extra 23 kg of checked baggage at no cost. However, this will only be permitted if they show proof that they are indeed students studying overseas and provide copies of their passports and Student Visas.

Carry-on Baggage Allowance

One piece of hand luggage is allowed for passengers traveling in the Economy class and two pieces of hand luggage are allowed for passengers in the Business class. The maximum weight of these pieces should be 7kg with dimensions limited to 115 cm. Personal items brought along for individual benefit are also allowed on board. These can be handbags, overcoats, laptops, cameras, baby food and reasonable duty-free purchases.

Consideration is also made for People with special needs as they are allowed to bring with them braces, wheelchairs, or crutches.

Restricted and Prohibited Items

Finally, Due to safety being important for this airline, passengers are not allowed to carry in their hand luggage any sharp objects, firearms, all manner of weapons, stun guns, workers tools that can cause serious injury and explosives. In addition to these, all items that are listed as dangerous goods are not allowed in the airplane.
