For a child younger than 2 years who will be travelling on your lap, you may bring:

KLM Airlines Passenger Baggage Allowance And Restrictions 

Hand baggage allowance for economy class (European and intercontinental flights)

Each passenger is allowed a single hand baggage whose sizes don’t exceed 55 X 35 X 25 cm. You can also bring along a single accessory like a briefcase or laptop computer whose dimensions don’t exceed 40 X 30 X 15 cm. All in all, your hand baggage allowance weight shouldn’t exceed 12kg.

Hand baggage allowance for business class (European and intercontinental flights)

Passengers traveling in business class are permitted to bring along 2 hand baggage whose sizes don’t exceed 55 X 35 X 25 cm for each. They can also carry a single accessory whose dimensions shouldn’t exceed 40 X 30 X 15 cm. The overall hand baggage allowance for business class passengers in terms of weight is 18kg.

Check-in baggage allowance for economy class (intercontinental flights)

KLM airlines passengers traveling in economy class are allowed to bring a single checked baggage whose total dimensions (L+W+H) shouldn’t exceed 158cm and weighs no more than 23kg.

Check-in baggage allowance for business class (intercontinental flights)

KLM passengers traveling in business class are permitted 2 checked baggage whose overall dimension shouldn’t exceed 158cm (L+W+H) and each weigh no more than 32kg.

Prohibited items

KLM has put some restrictions on the items which can be carried as both hand and check-in baggage. Let us now look at them.

Lithium-ion batteries are some of the prohibited items you cannot carry as check-in baggage on any KLM Flight. This includes loose lithium-ion batteries and powerbanks for gadgets like laptops, mobile phones or DVD players. These items can only be carried as hand baggage if you cannot travel without them.

Self-balancing gadgets such as hoverboards, airboards, e-skates, waveboards are also restricted onboard KLM flights. However, if you have a disability that necessitates their usage, you can request a special permission to bring them on your flight.

Firearms number among the prohibited items on KML flights. Firearms and ammunition meant for shooting or hunting can only be carried as check-in baggage only. That is if you are in possession of all the necessary permits. Other firearms which don’t require permits are restricted as hand baggage on KLM flights. This includes air pistols, crossbows, spear guns, signal flare pistols and so on.

KLM passengers are prohibited to carry sharp edged weapons or objects like arrows, axes, machetes, hatchets, jack-knives and meat cleavers. Blunt instruments like baseball bats, cricket bats, snooker cue-sticks, hockey sticks, clubs and batons are also prohibited onboard.

KLM restricts its passengers to carry explosive and flammable as either hand or check-in baggage. This includes aerosol spray paint cans alcohol drinks (exceeding 70% by volume), explosive and explosive devices, gas bottles, fireworks, lighters and matches.

Finally, KLM airlines categorizes chemical and toxic substances among the prohibited items on either hand or check-in baggage. You cannot bring onboard items such as acids, alkalis, corrosive, bleaches, disabling sprays, fire extinguishers, printer and toner cartridges. You are also prohibited from carrying infectious and biologically dangerous materials as well as radioactive materials.
