SAS airlines is a Scandinavian airline that is one of Europe’s leading carriers which has an impressive coverage of many routes in Europe and America. It has a baggage policy that is designed to factor in the needs of all its passengers from different routes and with different needs. 

Checked Baggage 

Passengers interested in this airline have the option of flying in one of the four classes they offer; The SAS Go Light, SAS Go, SAS Plus and SAS Business. To begin with, passengers flying in the SAS Go Light do not enjoy any checked baggage allowance. Those flying on the SAS Go are allowed only one piece of checked baggage weighing up to 23kg while those in the SAS Plus category are allowed a maximum of two pieces of the same weight. In addition to that, passengers who are flying to or from the United States and Asia on the SAS Business Class will be allowed up to two pieces of 32kg.

The airline also has a special baggage allowance consideration for its passengers who are flying on the membership tickets. The Eurobonus Gold and the Diamond members can bring along two extra pieces of luggage while its Eurobonus Silver Passengers and Star Alliance members can bring along one additional piece of baggage.

Infants in this airline will be allowed only one piece of checked baggage that should weigh no more than 23kg with dimensions of 115cm on all classes except the SAS Go Light where no checked baggage is allowed. However, in all categories, they will be authorized to bring along a stroller but are not allowed any cabin baggage.

Excess baggage that is above 32kg will be expected to be repackaged or sent as cargo due to safety reasons. Any excess baggage that is above the outlined limits will be charged extra fees depending on the route of travel and the extent by which the baggage has exceeded the allowed limits. 

Cabin Baggage 

When it comes to hand luggage, the passengers in the SAS Go Light and SAS Go will be allowed to bring along one single piece of hand luggage weighing 8kg with dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm. Their counterparts in the SAS Plus and SAS Business will be allowed to bring along two pieces with the same weight and dimensions. Additionally, passengers can bring along a hand bag or a small laptop bag that should be limited to 40 x 30 x 15 cm dimensions.

It is important to note that passengers are encouraged to bring along golf equipment, ski equipment, and any musical instrument at no additional charge. 

Baggage Claims 

Immediately baggage arrives at the airport; passengers are advised to collect it without any delay. Any baggage that is not claimed on arrival and stays in possession of the airline will attract storage fees. On the other hand, baggage that stays uncollected for a period of three months will be disposed of by the airline. Passengers wishing to claim their baggage will be required to produce their valid identification documents or provide satisfactory proof that they are the bonafide owners of the luggage.

Unchecked baggage will only be compensated incase the damage occurred as a result of the negligence of the airline. Checked baggage will only be compensated up to the limits outlined by the airline and in case your checked baggage is over the compensation limit the passenger will be required to report this at check in. Should a passenger lose their luggage, they should report this matter to the airline officials without delay for filing of a complainant report and immediate follow up. 

Restricted and Prohibited Items

Passengers flying in this plane are advised to limit any fluids, liquids and gels to containers of not more than 100ml which should all be stored in plastic bags with a capacity of not more than 1 liter.

Sharp objects with the potential to be used as weapons are also not allowed to be carried as hand luggage. In the checked baggage, passengers will not be allowed to pack any special value items like money, jewelry, sunglasses, cameras or any prescribed medication. Firearms except those designated for use in sporting will not be allowed as contents of any baggage. 

In conclusion, prohibited from carriage are any items classified as dangerous goods, this includes but is not limited to; explosives, radioactive substances , oxidizing materials, poisonous content or compressed gases. Also included in the list of banned items is any lithium powered vehicles like the hover boards.
