Summary

Summary
Last update: 08 Dec 2016

TAAG Angola Airlines bases its baggage policy on two major concepts. The weight concept whereby the amount of luggage to be carried is limited by weight, and the piece concept whereby the amount of baggage to be carried is limited by the number of pieces to be transported.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Weight Concept

In the weight concept, the passengers are given an allowance of 20kg of checked baggage in the Economy class, 30kg of checked baggage in the Business class and 40kg of checked baggage in the First class.

Piece Concept

In this category, the passengers are extended a checked baggage allowance based on the route they are traveling on. Passengers traveling to Portugal or Havana from Luanda and Vice versa are allowed two pieces of checked baggage with a weight of 23kg each in the Economy Class. On the other hand, in the Business Class, they are authorized to bring with them up to two pieces of checked baggage of 32kg each while in the First Class they are allowed three pieces of 32kg each.

For other routes, the checked baggage allowance is 2 pieces of 55kg in the Economy Class, 2 pieces weighing 65kg both in the Business Class and First class.

Cabin baggage

When it comes to hand luggage passengers are allowed only one piece with a maximum weight of 5kg which can go up to 10kg for flights to Beijing. The dimensions of the luggage should be limited to 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.

In addition to the allowed hand luggage passengers are allowed to bring with them at no cost an additional shoulder bag, tablet or devices needed for medical reasons.

Excess baggage

Any luggage that is in excess of the dimensions and the weight of 32kg for checked baggage will be required to pay excess baggage fees. However the excess baggage fees vary depending on the route used as follows;

Route: Lisbon/Porto

Any additional item that weighs 23kg will be charged excess baggage fees of USD 250 or a much lower fee of USD 200 in case of an advance purchase. For any additional item that is greater than 23kg but lower than 32kg, it will be charged excess baggage fees of USD 380 or 345 in case of an advance purchase. On the other hand, any item that is in excess and lies between 23 kg and 32kg will be charged at USD 150.

Route: Rio/Sao Paolo

In this route, any additional item that weights more than 23 kg but is below 32 kg will be charged USD 200 or USD 160 in case of an advance purchase.

Route: Havana

For this route the passengers pay USD 250 for any excess baggage that is up to 23 kg with a discounted rate of USD 200 for an advance purchase. Should the items be more than 23 kg but less than 32 kg the passenger will be required to pay USD 380 OR USD 345 in advance.

Route: Beijing

For this route the passenger will be required to pay USD 23 per kg of any excess weight.

Baggage Claims

TAAG Angola Airlines highly recommends that passengers should pick their luggage immediately on arrival at the airport. Should a passenger be unable to locate their luggage they should report the matter immediately to the airline’s counter at the airport. At this point a thorough search for the luggage will be launched using the luggage tracing system.

If the luggage is not found after 30 days from the date the claim was made, the passenger will be compensated at the rate of USD 27 for every kg. The compensation can also be made based on the stated value of the luggage in case the contents of the baggage were declared at checked-in.

Restricted and Prohibited Items

Due to safety reasons, the passengers will not be allowed to carry a certain category of items as hand luggage. These items include; any kinds of firearms or substances that can be listed as weapons, sharp objects, blunt objects, highly flammable substance or explosives, chemical substances with radio-active and corrosive capabilities and infectious hazardous material.

In the checked baggage the following items are not permitted; perishable goods, phones, valuable electronics, important professional documents, precious substances like jewelry, essential medication needed during the flight and items classified as dangerous goods.
