Finnair is the national air carrier of Finland. The airlines operate both domestic and international flights from and to Finland. It is essential to know more about luggage restrictions on the airlines before booking a ticket. The airline allows carry-on baggage and check-in baggage on the flights. The maximum carry-on baggage dimensions are 45cm*25cm*56cm for L*B*H. The maximum baggage weight for one piece should not be more than 23 Kgs. Any additional carry-on baggage like a musical instrument, golf stick or a ski within these dimensions count as one piece of baggage.

The number of allowed checked bags differ according to the flight class and the country of origin/destination. There are four classes on all Finnair flights which are business class, pro-economy class, value economy class, and light economy class. Passengers travelling in light economy class are not permitted any checked baggage. or passengers travelling in light economy class. Passengers travelling on flights to and from Asia are allowed 3 pieces in business class, 2 pieces in pro-economy class and 1 piece in value economy class. In all flight to and from North America, 2 pieces are allowed in business class and 1 piece in the economy classes.Passengers of flights within Europe and the Middle East are allowed 2 pieces each in business and pro-economy classes and 1 piece in value economy class. Children baggage allowance is the same as adults in all flights. Infants are allowed one piece on all classes. For carry-on bags, Finnair Plus silver,gold, and platinum members are allowed 2 pieces of carry-on baggage and one personal handbag. Maximum combined weight of these bags should not be more than 10 Kgs. All other passengers can carry one piece of carry-on luggage and one personal handbag which should not weigh more than 8 kgs combined. Please consider the baggage allowances of all connecting flights as all carriers have different allowance criteria.

Passengers travelling with bags more than the permissible allowance need to pay extra charges. The maximum number of baggage is 10 pieces per passenger. The passengers can pay the charges by three methods i.e. online, Finnair customer service or at the airport. The charges are lowest when paid online. Passengers can also use their points to pay for extra baggage. On intercontinental flights, the charges for an extra bag are 60$/Euros or 20000 Finnair points. Flights within Europe and the Middle East charge 15$/Euros per bag or 5000 points. Flights within Finland, Scandinavia or the Baltics charge 10$/euros or 4000 points per bag. The prices are much more when paid at customer desk or at the airport.

Always pack your baggage keeping in mind the restricted items on flights or within certain countries. Passengers travelling to and from European Union airports should check the site for permitted items. The list of restricted items on Finnair flights includes liquids more than 100 ml, Lighter fuels, lighter refills,lithium-ion batteries and any equipment powered by these batteries, and gas containers. Finnair allows some flammable item on flights within small quantities and these limits are on the company's website. It is essential to check the list of restricted items of all the connecting flights as the airlines follows the civil aviation policies of their countries.
